Join AMTA


Membership in Alabama Music Teachers Association (AMTA) is open to anyone involved in the Music profession, and is not limited to those persons living in Alabama. AMTA is affiliated with Music Teachers National Association (MTNA). AMTA members are required to be members of MTNA as well.MTNA, a national organization founded in 1876, is a community of more than 24,000 committed music professionals which offers to its members a variety of programs, services, and benefits.

Performance Opportunities for Students:


          AMTA sponsors district and state level solo auditions for piano, organ, voice, guitar, and orchestral instruments. These auditions provide:

          a written evaluation of the performance

          a written evaluation of theory/technique

          a progression of musicianship skills that will prepare the average student for entry into a college music program

          feedback to teachers as to the effectiveness of their curriculum

          State-level concerto auditions

          AMTA participates in the Music Teachers National Association performance and composition competitions at the elementary, junior, senior, and young artist levels

          Many local associations offer additional performances through hymn festivals, sonata/sonatina competitions, and recitals.

          AMTA student scholarships are awarded during the spring state auditions and presented at the annual state conference.

          Eligibility for MTNA's national performance and composition competitions.
